S2. EP15 - the deal — College boys don’t f*ck like that.
Season 2 heads to campus with The Deal by Elle Kennedy, book one of the Off-Campus series. It's the one where a whip-smart music major agrees to tutor the hockey team's golden-boy captain in exchange for help getting another guy's attention. Elisa, a secret former college hockey fan, called it a palate cleanser: candy-pop romance, decent sex, no anxiety. Lindsay went to a Christian college where students signed a no-sex, no-booze covenant, so the book stirred up zero nostalgia for her. She read the whole thing with a highlighter and a growing list of locker-room language she has notes on. Jess got kicked out of her party school Pauly Shore style before coming back a dean's-list social worker. She found the book cute, and she'd like the record to show that college boys do not have sex like this.
The episode also gets real. The hosts talk through how the book handles Hannah's assault, which Jess thought was done with care. Then they take on the bigger question: can you root for a hero who comes out of the same culture that hurt the heroine? Lindsay says the book props that culture up. Jess makes the case for growth over cancellation. Nobody fully wins, and that's the point. Along the way, "Jesus Harold Christ" becomes official BTF vocabulary, Ted Lasso gets described as a historical reference, and the verdict on the adaptation lands hard: if Heated Rivalry is a symphony, Off-Campus is an AI song.
